NJ TRANSIT New Years Transportation – Monday, January 29, 2025 to Friday, January 2, 2026

For the New Years holidays, beginning with early getaway service on Monday, December 29, to Friday, January 2, 2025, NJ TRANSIT transportation services will operate as follows:

Rail:
 

Monday, December 29 and Tuesday, December 30: 

  • NEC and NJCL trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule with additional late morning trains on both lines. In addition, certain NEC and NJCL morning rush-hour trains will be cancelled. See timetables or visit njtransit.com for details.
  • All other lines will operate on regular weekday schedules.

     

Wednesday, December 31:

  • In the morning, NEC and NJCL trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule with additional late morning trains on both lines. In addition, certain NEC and NJCL morning rush-hour trains will be cancelled. See timetables or visit njtransit.com for details.
  • From late afternoon through the evening, extra service to New York/Hoboken will operate on the RVL, M&E and Port Jervis Lines. Schedules will be available at njtransit.com (both in printed and electronic form) on or about December 26.

     

Thursday, January 1:

  • Extra overnight service from PSNY/Hoboken with connecting service at Newark Broad Street/Summit/Long Branch. Certain trains that normally operate between 11:30 PM and 1:30 AM will be canceled. Schedules will be available at njtransit.com (both in printed and electronic form) on or about December 26.
  • After 6:30 AM, train service will follow a regular weekend/major holiday schedule (with Port Jervis Line Train 88 operating)

Friday, January 2: 

  • NEC and NJCL trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule with additional late morning trains on both lines. In addition, certain NEC and NJCL morning rush-hour trains will be cancelled. See timetables or visit njtransit.com for details.
  • All other lines will operate on regular weekday schedules.

Wednesday, December 31 (New Year's Eve): Most bus routes (North & South Jersey Local/Port Authority Bus Terminal [PABT]/George Washington Bridge [GWB]/Jersey City Waterfront) will operate on a regular weekday schedule OR a special holiday schedule. Service may include AM peak and/or PM peak trip reductions and/or will also provide early-getaway service from the PABT between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Extra service will be provided between midnight and 6:00 AM from New York as well as on the 13, 21, and 25 lines in the Newark area.

Thursday, January 1, 2026 (New Year's Day): Most buses will operate on a Saturday or Sunday schedule.

Light Rail:

River LINE:

  • On Tuesday, December 30, River LINE Light Rail service will operate on a normal weekday schedule.
  • On Wednesday, December 31 (New Years Eve), River LINE Light Rail service will operate on a normal weekday schedule.
  • On Thursday, January 1 (New Years Day), River LINE Light Rail service will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule.

Newark Light Rail:

  • On Wednesday, December 31 (New Years Eve), Newark Light Rail service will operate on a normal weekday schedule.

  • On Thursday, January 1 (New Years Day), Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule.
