Gladstone Branch: Special Schedule for Far Hills Race Meeting – Saturday, October 21, 2023

IMPORTANT NOTE: For this special event, NO BEVERAGES INCLUDING ALCOHOL, OPEN OR CLOSED, WILL BE PERMITTED on any train, bus or platform to and from Far Hills on this day. This policy will be strictly enforced.

On Saturday, October 21, NJ TRANSIT is offering a special rail service between Hoboken and Far Hills for the Far Hills Race Meeting (Steeplechase). NJ TRANSIT’s Far Hills Station on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Lines is located directly across the street from Moorland Farms, the site of the event.

As is normal with travel to/from special events, capacity on trains can vary depending on when customers choose to travel. Customers should allow additional travel time and be patient if they cannot board the first train they encounter.

Please note that on October 21, the Gladstone Branch will only provide service to/from the Far Hills Race Meeting. At all other stations, Lakeland Bus service will replace Gladstone Branch trains on an hourly basis. See Special Schedule for full service details.

• Traveling to Far Hills:
  • Trains will depart Hoboken at least once per hour from 7:31AM until 11:20AM, with more frequent service between 8:39AM and 10:35AM.
  • Trains will depart Summit at least once per hour from 8:14AM until 1:14PM, with more frequent service from approximately 9:10AM until approximately 11:20AM.
• Traveling from Far Hills:
  • From 3:59PM until 7:03PM, Gladstone Branch train service will operate from Far Hills.
  • Trains may depart Far Hills as they are filled, but the last train of the day will not depart Far Hills before 7:03PM.
• There will be no rail service to or from Peapack and Gladstone stations. Frequent shuttle bus service (operated by Lakeland Bus Company) will operate between Gladstone, Peapack and Far Hills throughout the day. Buses will operate at least every 30 minutes but may operate more frequently if customer demand warrants.
• Outside the times shown above, Lakeland buses replace the Gladstone Branch rail service between Gladstone and Summit.

To avoid lines, customers are strongly encouraged to purchase round-trip tickets in advance and allow for plenty of extra travel time. Customers boarding at Far Hills without a valid ticket or pass will be required to purchase a special ticket prior to boarding the train for $20. The special ticket is valid until 11:59PM on October 21 only for travel between Far Hills and any NJ TRANSIT rail station.

Ticket Offices: Ticket offices will be open during regular hours at Hoboken, Summit and Dover. The ticket office at Lyons will have special operating hours. Temporary ticket booths will be set up as follows:

• Bernardsville: 7AM – 12:45PM
• Berkeley Heights: 7AM – 12:45PM
• Gladstone: 7AM – 12:45PM
• Far Hills: 8AM – 7PM
• Lyons: 7AM – 12:45PM
• Dover: 6:45AM – 2:45PM
• Summit: 7AM – 6:30PM
• Hoboken: 7AM – 8PM

Please Note: Bicycles are not permitted on Gladstone Branch trains for this day. Parking will be prohibited at Far Hills Station between 6AM and 9PM. The parking lot will be used for Far Hills Race Meeting Transportation Operations.
