NJ TRANSIT Rail Service for the Christmas/New Year’s Holiday Period – Friday, December 22, 2023 to Monday, January 1, 2024

NJ TRANSIT Rail service will operate with modifications during the Christmas/New Year’s holiday period (Friday, December 22, 2023 until Monday, January 1, 2024), as shown below:

Friday, December 22:

Trains will operate on a weekday schedule on all lines with additional “Early Getaway” service beginning at 2 PM from Penn Station New York, Newark Penn Station, and Hoboken Terminal on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, and Port Jervis lines. Saturday, December 23:

Trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule.

Sunday, December 24:

Trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule.
Meadowlands service will operate for the Jets vs Commanders football game. See https://www.njtransit.com/meadowlands for details.

Monday, December 25

Trains will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule (including Port Jervis Line Train 88).

Tuesday, December 26 through Friday, December 29

NEC and NJCL trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule with additional late morning-trains on both lines. Certain NEC morning rush-hour trains will be canceled. See NEC and NJCL timetables for details.
All other lines will operate on regular weekday schedules.

Saturday, December 30

Trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule.

Sunday, December 31

Trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule, with extra service to New York/Hoboken on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, Montclair-Boonton and Port Jervis lines from late afternoon through the evening. Meadowlands service will operate for the Giants vs Rams game. See https://www.njtransit.com/meadowlands for details.

Monday, January 1

Certain trains that normally operate between midnight and 1:30AM will be cancelled.
Extra overnight service will operate on all lines except the Atlantic City Line. Trains will run from Penn Station New York and Hoboken Terminal, with connecting service at Newark Broad Street, Summit and Long Branch stations. Special printable schedules showing the extra trains are available at https://www.njtransit.com/schedules/printable.
After 6AM, trains will operate on regular weekend/holiday schedules (including Port Jervis Line Train 88).

Travel Notes:

Allow for extra travel time due to anticipated holiday ridership.
Purchase round-trip tickets at the start of your trip to speed your return. Use the Mobile App, ticket vending machines or see a ticket agent, if available, to avoid possible surcharges.
Use NJ TRANSIT’s mobile app for a seamless experience purchasing tickets and planning your trip.
NJ TRANSIT’s Family SuperSaver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult, is in effect until January 2.
Customers may also partake in buy one, get one free tickets and discounts to Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
Customers traveling to Newark Liberty International Airport are urged to purchase their tickets in advance.
Passengers with luggage or packages should use overhead racks or designated luggage spaces. On multilevel trains, customers with large bags should use the mezzanine levels at the ends of each car.
