On Wednesday, November 26 through Friday, November 28, NJ TRANSIT Rail service will operate with some modifications for the Thanksgiving weekend as follows:

SERVICE NOTES:

Early Getaway Service — Wednesday, November 26: Trains will operate on a weekday schedule on all lines with additional Early Getaway service from Penn Station New York, Newark Penn Station, and Hoboken Terminal starting at 2:00 PM.

Northeast Corridor Early Getaway:

  • Three extra trains will depart from New York:
    • Train 8849 at 2:04 PM (skips Secaucus, express from Newark Airport to New Brunswick)
    • Train 8851 at 2:24 PM (express from Newark Airport to New Brunswick)
    • Train 8855 at 3:24 PM (express from Newark Penn to Princeton Junction)
  • Trains 3951 (5:12 PM from New York) and 3963 (7:07 PM from New York) will be cancelled.

North Jersey Coast Line Early Getaway:

  • Two extra trains will depart from New York:
    • Train 8249 at 2:34 PM (Express from Newark Airport to Woodbridge)
    • Train 8353 at 3:13 PM (Express from Newark Penn to Woodbridge)
  • Train 3373 (5:56 PM from New York) will be cancelled.

Raritan Valley Line Early Getaway:

  • Extra Train 8529 will depart Newark Penn at 3:36 PM and make all stops to Raritan.
  • Trains 5743 and 5445 will be combined as Train 8545, which will depart Newark at 6:33 PM and will make all stops to High Bridge.

Morris & Essex Lines Early Getaway:

  • Train 8935 will depart New York at 2:22 PM and make all stops to Dover except Secaucus, East Orange, Highland Avenue, Mountain Station and Mount Tabor.
  • Train 8941 will depart New York at 3:49 PM and stop at South Orange, Maplewood, Summit, Chatham, Madison, Convent Station, Morristown, Morris Plains, Denville and Dover.

Main/Bergen County/Port Jervis Early Getaway:

  • Train 49 (2:41 PM departure from Hoboken and 2:52 PM from Secaucus) will continue to Otisville and Port Jervis this day and be renumbered as Train 99.
  • Train 59 (6:14 PM departure from Hoboken and 6:25 PM departure from Secaucus) will be cancelled.

Thursday, November 27: Weekend/Major Holiday Service on ALL Lines

  • Additional parade service will operate on the NEC, NJCL, RVL, M&E/Midtown Direct, and Port Jervis Line. Special Thanksgiving Day printer-friendly timetables for these lines are posted on the Printable Schedules page.

Friday, November 28: Enhanced Weekend/Major Holiday Service on ALL Lines

  • Trains will operate on a weekend schedule, featuring additional trains during the morning and afternoon/evening peak periods. See shaded trains in timetables and regular weekend printable schedules and check footnotes for operating dates.

Saturday, November 29, and Sunday, November 30 on ALL LINES

  • Regular weekend schedule will operate on both days.
  • On Sunday, Meadowlands service will operate for the Jets-Atlanta Falcons football game. See https://www.njtransit.com/meadowlands for details.
     

Travel Notes:

  • Allow for extra travel time due to anticipated holiday ridership.
  • Purchase round-trip tickets at the start of your trip to speed your return. Use the Mobile App, ticket vending machines or see a ticket agent, if available, to avoid possible surcharges.
  • Use NJ TRANSIT’s Mobile Map for a seamless experience purchasing tickets and planning your trip.
  • For the Thanksgiving holiday, NJ TRANSIT’s Family SuperSaver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2025, through 2:00 AM Monday, January 5, 2025.
  • NOTE: Metro-North Exclusion: This extended privilege DOES NOT apply to passengers traveling TO or FROM Metro-North stations on the Main-Bergen or Pascack Valley Lines. Metro-North Holiday fare rules are in effect from Wednesday, November 26, 2025, through Monday, January 5, 2025.  
  • Customers traveling to Newark Liberty International Airport are urged to purchase their tickets in advance.
  • Passengers with luggage or packages should use overhead racks or designated luggage spaces. On multilevel trains, customers with large bags should use the mezzanine levels at the ends of each car.
