Newark Light Rail: Buses Replace Light Rail Between Grove Street and Newark Penn Stations, and Broad Street Extension Closed – Weekend of May 9 and 10, 2026
From 2:00 AM Saturday to 2:00 AM Monday, buses will replace light rail service due to track improvements. Substitute buses will depart every 20 minutes from Grove Street Station to Newark Penn Station. Click HERE to view the substitute bus schedules.
The following Newark Light Rail stations will be closed in both directions: Grove Street, Silver Lake, Branch Brook Park, Davenport Avenue, Bloomfield Avenue, Park Avenue, Orange Street, Norfolk Street, Warren Street, Washington Street, Military Park, and Newark Penn stations.
Customers who need to travel between Newark Penn and Broad Street stations must use Bus Route Nos. 11, 28, 29, 72, or 76. Dedicated substitute buses will not run to these stations. Bus schedules can be found online here.
Please check all destination signs before boarding and allow for extra travel time.
