NJ TRANSIT Rail Service for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Monday, January 19, 2026
On January 19, 2026, NJ TRANSIT Rail service will operate an enhanced weekend schedule for MLK Jr. Day. The enhanced weekend schedule includes additional trains during the morning and afternoon/evening “peak” periods. See shaded trains in timetables and printable schedules and check footnotes for operating dates.
Penn Station New York: Staircase to 31st Street and 7th Avenue Closed – Effective Tuesday, January 13, 2026
Effective Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and continuing until further notice, the staircase to 31st Street and 7th Avenue’s entrance and exit will be closed due to refurbishment.
Please use the escalators or elevator adjacent to the staircase.
We ask that customers be aware of the construction activity and follow all posted signage. We appreciate your patience during this adjustment.
Raritan Valley Line: Delays due to Tree-Trimming Work – Tuesday, January 20, until Friday, January 23, 2026
From approximately 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM each day, westbound trains to Raritan and High Bridge may be delayed up to 10 minutes due to tree-trimming work near Somerville Station.
Cranford Station: Partial Westbound Platform Closure due to Repair Work – Effective Immediately
The east end of the westbound platform will be closed due to ongoing repair work through approximately the spring of 2026.
Trains will not pick up or drop off customers in this area as work is being completed.
Customers are encouraged to check all posted signage and avoid closed off areas.
New Brunswick Station: Platform Improvement Work – Effective Wednesday, January 7, 2026
Beginning Wednesday, January 7, and continuing through Saturday, January 10, infrastructure improvements will occur on the platform at New Brunswick Station.
During this time, work zones will be blocked off, and the platform will remain open for customers to use.
South Amboy Station: Partial Staircase Closure – Effective Thursday, January 8, 2025
Beginning Thursday, January 8th and continuing for approximately two weeks, quality of life work will be taking place on the station concourse stairs from the North Broadway Plaza.
Alternating sides of the staircase will be closed during the course of this work, and customers are encouraged to be attentive to barricades and active work zones during this time.
EWR Airport Station: Bus Shuttles to and from Newark Penn Station due to EWR Station Closure – Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11, 2026
Beginning Saturday evening, January 10 at 9:30 PM, and continuing until Sunday, January 11 at 10:00 AM, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) Station will be closed to support work on major station projects including construction of a new station entrance and work related to the replacement of the current AirTrain system.
Morris & Essex Line: Delays due to Track Maintenance – Effective Immediately
Beginning Monday, January 5, and continuing on weekdays between approximately 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM until further notice, eastbound Morristown Line and Gladstone Branch trains operating to Penn Station New York/Hoboken may be delayed up to 10 minutes in both directions due to track maintenance between Millburn and East Orange Stations.
Somerville Station: Construction Activity Resulting in Changed Traffic Patterns – Effective Immediately
Effective immediately and continuing through late 2027, new traffic patterns will be in place at Somerville station due to ongoing construction activity.
The west side staircase on the Eastbound Platform will be closed, as well as a portion of the existing bike and pedestrian pathway during this time.
South Amboy Station: Center-Platform Elevator Returned to Service - Effective Immediately
The center-platform elevator at South Amboy Station has returned to service.
